As we transition through menopause and our body shape shifts, weight release can become an uphill battle, plagued with frustration and setbacks. After months of disappointment, we may finally recognize that whatever worked in the past is no relevant to our new body
Not only does our body gain weight differently during menopause, but our chemistry has also changed, and the puzzle becomes more complicated. Women may exercise and eat properly with no success. Old solutions won’t work because our hormones have now become a strong influencer on our success. Even exercising seven days a week may not prove to be successful.
My weight loss journey began at 49 years old. At that time, I was very unhappy with my body image; for me it felt like it happened over night. I think however I was just very distracted with life’s responsibilities and was not paying attention. My self-care had slid to the back burner of my priority list like many women in menopause. Confidence was becoming an issue and I often avoided social engagements out of embarrassment.
The program was simple! Balance my hormones in combination with clean eating and a natural weight loss formula to burn fat and re-set the metabolism. My weight shifted quickly and in just three months I was down over 30 pounds! My confidence soared and my life shifted dramatically.
Weight loss during menopause is a huge challenge. However, its important to understand all aspects and underlying causes.
First, during menopause our body starts to gain weight differently and, at times, dramatically. Women can easily gain 10 pounds per month, a size, as their hormones shift, and their metabolism slows. It’s no wonder it becomes so disheartening as we look back at pictures, wondering who this person is staring back at us in the mirror. Suddenly our clothes are tight, and our wardrobe becomes limited.
With my expertise, I realized the sustainability and the foundation of a program would be to balance hormones, shift the metabolism and support the thyroid. All our hormones can have the ability to influence our weight; however, Cortisol is key, which is so often affected by our overwhelming responsibilities as women.
In researching a suitable weight loss program for menopause, I would always consider the following:
1) Does the program provide a reasonable and sustainable lifestyle?
2) Does it provide life coaching to remove old habits that are no longer serving you?
3) Is it a long-term solution or quick fix?
4) Does it support your health and encourage self-care?
5) Does it incorporate a component to accurately test and balance hormones? Preferably a Saliva Hormone Test.
